    Highlighted Career For September

    This month we will be highlighting various opportunities in the area of construction and skilled trades.   Princeton City Schools is fortunate to be working on the development of a pre-apprenticeship program.  In the coming weeks you will learn more about this new and exciting program and how you may be able to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

    So, what are skilled trades and why might they be a good career option.  Before we get into the definition of skilled trades we must realize that college is not for everyone.  While some may want to pursue higher education others prefer to work with their hands.

    Skilled Trades:

    While skilled trades can be separated into many areas such as manufacturing, technology, energy, and healthcare, they are generally divided into the following three categories:

    • Skilled Industrial Trades: welders, machinists, mechanics, tool and die makers, programmers 
    • Skilled Construction Trades: electricians, plumbers, gasfitters, carpenters, bricklayers, technicians, insulators 
    • Skilled Service Trades: nurses, aides, orderlies, therapists, service technicians,

    So let's take a look at just one opportunity.  Electricitions


    An electrician is a tradesman specializing in electrical wiring of buildings, transmission lines, stationary machines, and related equipment. Electricians may be employed in the installation of new electrical components or the maintenance and repair of existing electrical infrastructure. Wikipedia

    Entry-level education: High school diploma or equivalent

    Projected 10-year growth: 14%

    Electrical work      

    According to Salary.com, the average wage for an electrician in Ohio rages from 47,000 to 73,000 per year
