The Woodlawn Police Department placed Woodlawn Elementary School into an external lockdown at 11:41 a.m. today, February 4, as a precautionary measure. This means all doors to the building were locked and no one was permitted to enter or leave during the lockdown.
The police had a suspect they were investigating in one of the neighborhoods surrounding the school. Working with local law enforcement, the Woodlawn Elementary School remained on external lockdown until 12:06 p.m., when the situation was cleared.
The lockdown was lifted and normal activities continued in the building for the remainder of the day.
