Safety Update logo

April 13, 2023

Dear Princeton Community Middle School parents, guardians, and community members:

The safety of our students and staff is of paramount importance.  To that end, this afternoon, it was brought to the attention of building administration that four students indicated during a private chat with another student the possibility of a threat at Princeton Community Middle School.  Administration and local law enforcement were immediately notified and began an investigation.

The individual who made the threat has been identified, and swift discipline occurred.  While the threat has been deemed not credible, every threat does carry a consequence.  While privacy laws prohibit us from discussing the discipline of any specific individual, we can assure you that any student found responsible for making threats of violence will face the most severe consequence by both District policy and Ohio law.

We all play a vital role in any school-wide safety effort; it is the duty and responsibility of students, staff, and families to report any potential threats to the proper individuals.  We appreciate the concern and help of the individuals who have taken this responsibility seriously by notifying the appropriate authorities of the message.  Princeton continues to remain vigilant about campus security.

Together, we can keep our students safe so they can focus on learning.  As always, we sincerely appreciate your support and understanding.

Respectfully,

Tom Burton

Superintendent

Dear Springdale Families,

The Springdale Police Department placed Springdale Elementary School into an external teaching lockdown at 10:28 a.m. today, April 13, as a precautionary measure.  This means all doors to the buildings were locked and no one was permitted to enter or leave during the lockdown.  Normal activities continued in the building.

The police were investigating an incident in one of the neighborhoods near the school.  Working with local law enforcement, the elementary school remained on external teaching lockdown until 10:38 a.m., when the situation was cleared, and the lockdown was lifted.

We appreciate your partnership.  Safety is our top priority at Princeton City School District.

Thank you,

Lisa Tenbarge

Principal

Dear Princeton Families,

Due to a glitch in the alarm system, Princeton Community Middle School was temporarily placed into a brief lockdown at 8:10 a.m.   Security and building administration checked the building as an extra precaution, although it was clearly a systematic error from the start.

During a lockdown, all doors to the buildings are locked, and no one is permitted to enter or leave the building during the lockdown.

The lockdown procedures were cleared quickly, and the alarm system will be repaired after hours this evening.  Normal activities will be continued in the building for the remainder of the day. Counselors are available to assist students who have concerns due to the alarm.

We appreciate your partnership.  Safety is our top priority at Princeton City Schools.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Dave Mackzum

Principal of Princeton Community Middle School
