Firefighters Visit Evendale Elementary School to Teach Fire Safety

This week, our school was visited by a team of Evendale firefighters who came to give an important assembly about fire safety. The event took place in the school gymnasium, where students from all grades gathered to learn about what to do in case of a fire — both at school and at home.

The firefighters began by explaining their role in keeping the community safe and showed students the protective gear they wear when responding to emergencies. Everyone was amazed to see how heavy the helmets, boots, and breathing equipment are! They also talked about the importance of staying calm during an emergency and listening carefully to teachers or adults in charge.

Next, the firefighters demonstrated the key procedures to follow if there is a fire. They reminded everyone to stop, drop, and roll if their clothes catch fire and to always stay low to the ground to avoid smoke. Students were reminded  to leave the building quickly and quietly during a fire drill, using the nearest exit and never going back for personal belongings.

The assembly ended with a question-and-answer session where students got to ask about fire engines, how fires are put out, and what it’s like to be a firefighter. The firemen encouraged everyone to check that their homes have working smoke alarms and to talk with their families about a safe meeting place outside.

It was an exciting and educational morning, and everyone left with a better understanding of how to stay safe in an emergency. Our school would like to thank the Evendale fire department for their time and for the valuable lessons they shared.
