Swatting Threats to Schools

The Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) is aware of threats of violence that were made to Ohio schools in the last week. The OSSC is actively working with the Statewide Terrorism Analysis and Crime Center and FBI as well as schools and local law enforcement to support their efforts to investigate these threats.

While these threats recently did not appear to be credible, the OSSC takes all threats to schools seriously and recommends that schools and first responders do the same. Even if your school has not experienced a threat recently, this is a good time to refresh staff on your policies and procedures for threats in case this continues. Proactively reach out to law enforcement to better understand how they will investigate and clear the buildings and your protocols for response or even closing schools, if necessary.

tip line

The OSSC encourages schools to communicate with students, staff, and community members about the appropriate way to report threats and concerns of safety through the school's anonymous reporting system, directly to local law enforcement or through the use of the state's Safer Ohio School Tip Line.
