Princeton City Schools, in partnership with LEAD Training, is giving Princeton High School students an opportunity to turn their creativity into career-ready experience through the North Star Design Team, part of the Arts, Audio, and Communications Pre-Apprenticeship pathway.
Designed for students interested in careers in art, design, audio technology, communications, and related fields, the pre-apprenticeship combines hands-on experiences with employability training and individualized career coaching. Students will have opportunities to learn beyond the classroom while building skills they can carry into college, the workplace, and future careers.
Learning by Doing
A highlight of the North Star Design Team will be students' opportunity to work alongside a mural artist and explore murals throughout downtown, connecting professional creative work with the art and design found throughout the community.
Most project assignments will take place during Viking Bell, allowing students to participate in meaningful, career-connected experiences as part of their school day.
The broader pre-apprenticeship pathway also includes opportunities such as site visits, job shadowing, work-based learning, and employer-hosted experiences. Students complete LEAD Training workshops focused on soft skills and problem-solving, resume building and job applications, and interview skills and techniques. Participants also receive career coaching and work toward the OhioMeansJobs Readiness Seal.
Building Skills and Credentials for the Future
Participation in the North Star Design Team can help students earn points toward their Graduation Industry Credential Seals for College/Career Readiness, giving students another way to connect their high school experience with their plans after graduation.
Students can also connect the pathway with Princeton High School coursework such as Digital Art 1 or 2, Photography, and AP Photo/Digital Art. Optional industry-recognized credentials identified for the pathway include Adobe Certified Professional credentials in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Content Creation & Marketing Using Adobe Express.
Through the North Star Design Team, students won't just learn about creative careers. They'll have opportunities to experience the work, develop professional skills, and begin building a pathway toward what's next.
