Rendering of the upgrades to Viking Stadium and Pat Mancuso Field by MSA Sport Design

Princeton City School District is proud to announce its collaboration with MSA Sport, a division of MSA Design, on a comprehensive master plan that reimagines the district’s outdoor facilities for the next generation of Vikings.

The master plan creates a bold, future-focused vision for Princeton’s outdoor facilities, balancing functionality, fan experience, and student-athlete performance. The plan’s key elements include enhancements to the existing stadium and the addition of new home and visitor gateway features, designed to improve accessibility and security and create a unified sense of Viking pride.

The design for the Princeton High School Stadium project is rooted in both performance and identity, transforming the campus into a bold expression of Viking pride. Initially driven by the need to improve safety, circulation, and fan experience, the project evolved into a comprehensive reimagining of the stadium environment.

Drawing inspiration from Princeton’s Viking mascot, the architecture incorporates dynamic, angular forms and materials that evoke the strength and movement of a ship, most notably through a prominent entry element designed to resemble the bow. This contemporary approach reflects the District’s desire to move beyond a traditional stadium aesthetic and create a highly visible, future-focused facility that enhances the arrival experience, celebrates the program’s storied history, and serves as a unifying landmark for the community.

“We saw this as an opportunity to create something that truly reflects who Princeton is,” said Chris Patek, Principal at MSA Sport. “It’s not just about improving how the stadium functions. It’s about building a strong identity. From the moment fans arrive, the design is meant to capture that sense of Viking pride while delivering a safer, more dynamic experience for students, athletes, and the entire community.”

Complementing the architectural vision, the project’s graphic environment is guided by a theme of “Modern Nostalgia,” blending contemporary design with references to Princeton’s athletic heritage.

Inspired by classic varsity aesthetics, these elements celebrate the Viking legacy while creating bold, high-impact moments throughout the facility. The approach not only honors the program’s history but also reinforces school pride and enhances the experience for today’s students, athletes, and fans. To complement the graphic environment, Princeton students have designed and applied a custom graphic in the lobby outside of the classrooms in the fieldhouse and collaborated on the design of the graphic for the field. They were also involved in initial user group sessions, providing input on various programmatic pieces such as the classroom and locker rooms.

At the heart of the vision is a state-of-the-art three-story fieldhouse, featuring amenities to support both student-athletes and the wider community. The fieldhouse will house locker rooms, team and training rooms, coaches’ offices, concessions, public restrooms, and a press box, all designed to elevate game-day operations and daily athletic programming.

Other major components of the master plan include:

  • New visitor team locker room building and renovations to existing home and visitor restroom and concession buildings.

  • New practice field designed for flexible use across multiple sports.

  • New, separate home and visitor entries and ticket booths.

  • New male and female locker rooms for multi-sport use.

  • New officials' locker room.

  • Additional parking lot that includes additional ADA compliant parking.

In addition to the design vision, MSA Sport provided budget estimates and phased implementation strategies to help guide the District in planning for long-term success and project execution.

“The Vikings of Princeton City Schools have a proud tradition of excellence, and this master plan is about creating an environment that reflects that energy and ambition,” said Bill Baker, Managing Partner of MSA Sport. “These improvements will elevate the experience for students, fans, and the entire community. As Always, Go Vikes!”

This collaborative effort reflects MSA Sport’s commitment to designing spaces that empower athletes, engage fans, and strengthen community identity, furthering Princeton’s mission to provide top-tier opportunities for its students.

This phase of the master plan, which includes the three-story fieldhouse, parking, new entry, practice field, and visitor team building currently being built by Megen Construction, will be complete in the fall of 2026.
